How to Print and Share a Purchased Digital Photo

Use the original downloaded file for personal prints and sharing, and keep a backup of the unedited image.

Quick answer: Download and extract the original file, save a backup, and use that full-resolution file for personal printing and sharing. A digital purchase does not include physical prints unless listed in the package.

For personal printing

  1. Use the extracted original JPG file.
  2. Choose a print size that fits the image’s crop and pixel dimensions.
  3. Review the printer’s crop preview before submitting the order.
  4. Disable aggressive automatic cropping when it cuts off hair, hands, or clothing.
  5. Keep the Van Gogh original as a separate backup before making edits.

For sharing

  • Share a copy rather than the only original file.
  • Expect messaging and social-media services to reduce file size or quality.
  • Do not publicly share another student’s image, gallery code, or download link.
  • Use privacy settings appropriate for a child’s photograph.

Photo release and permitted use

A personal-use photo release may be included with eligible digital products. It allows the purchasing family to make personal prints and share the image for personal purposes. Commercial advertising, resale, publication by an unrelated organization, removal of another photographer’s credit, or use beyond the release is not automatically included.

Digital products and refunds

Digital-product concerns are reviewed case by case. If the delivered file is wrong, incomplete, or technically defective, contact Van Gogh before printing or broadly sharing it so the correct file can be provided.

Important: Do not print from a screenshot, email thumbnail, or watermarked gallery preview. Use the purchased downloaded file.
