Digital Retouching and Other Image Services

Image services are completed before the final digital file is released and can delay otherwise immediate delivery.

Quick answer: When an order includes retouching or another image service, the digital file is held until the requested work is completed. The confirmation can arrive before the final download.

What an image service can affect

  • The timing of the digital-download email
  • The version of the image used for prints and digital files
  • The crop or final appearance of the portrait
  • Whether the order must be reviewed before release

Common service types

Available services vary by gallery and may include basic portrait retouching, brace removal, black-and-white treatment, or another event-specific adjustment. Only services shown and purchased in the current gallery are included.

What retouching does not guarantee

Retouching is not a complete redesign of the photograph. It does not automatically change clothing, hairstyle, pose, expression, background, eyeglass position, or every temporary feature unless that specific service was offered and purchased.

When the finished file seems unchanged

Compare the downloaded file—not the gallery thumbnail—with the product confirmation. If the paid service is missing or the wrong image was edited, keep the original files and contact Van Gogh for review.

Important: Do not purchase the same digital product again while waiting for an image service. Customer Support can verify whether the order is still being completed.
