Why the Preview Has a Watermark or Looks Soft

Quick answer: A watermark or softer web preview protects the student’s image and helps the gallery load efficiently. It is not printed on a purchased product or included in a properly delivered digital file.

Watermarks

A gallery may place a Van Gogh or studio watermark over the online preview. The watermark is part of the preview only. Do not purchase a product by taking a screenshot; the screenshot will be lower quality and may still contain the watermark.

Why the preview can look soft

The gallery uses a smaller web preview to load faster.
A phone or browser is enlarging the preview beyond its display size.
The image is being viewed inside an email app or compressed message preview.
A slow connection has not finished loading the clearer preview.
The screen’s brightness, color, or sharpening differs from calibrated production equipment.

Final physical products

Van Gogh prints are produced from the production image, not a screenshot of the web preview. Cropping, paper, finish, and screen-to-print color can create normal differences between a glowing display and a physical photograph.

Final digital products

Digital file quality depends on the product purchased. View the downloaded file itself—not the email thumbnail—and check its pixel dimensions before evaluating resolution.

Important: A watermark should not appear on a delivered print or purchased digital file. If it does, keep the item or file and contact Van Gogh for correction.
