What Happens If My Child Is Absent on Picture Day?

The school may schedule a makeup or retake date; participation and scheduling are controlled through the school event.

Quick answer: Check with the school for a scheduled makeup or retake date. Van Gogh does not photograph students at a drop-in studio session for a missed school event.

Ask the school about makeup day

The school decides whether a makeup or retake session is offered, the date, which students may participate, and how students are called from class. Van Gogh cannot add an unscheduled building visit without school coordination.

If you placed a prepay order

  • Keep the order confirmation.
  • Make sure the school and Van Gogh have accurate student information.
  • Follow the school’s instructions for makeup day.
  • Do not automatically place a second order.
  • Contact Van Gogh if the student will not be photographed at any scheduled session.

If you expected an online gallery

A gallery cannot be created without a photographed image. If the student attends makeup day, the gallery or existing student record can be updated after the makeup images are processed.

If no makeup date is offered

Contact Van Gogh with any completed order number. Customer Support can review refund or other available options, but another school’s Picture Day or an unrelated event cannot normally be used as a substitute.

Important: Do not send the student to another school’s Picture Day without written coordination from both schools and Van Gogh. Student data, safety, and event workflows are school-specific.
